Places to See in Rome
Rome is a historical place with lots and lots of attractions. Some are the “major” ones, and the others are the “minor” ones. But every attraction has a history and is rich in heritage. To get the actual feel of Rome, these are places not to be missed out on. The following is a list of a few places.
Caesar's Grave As the name suggests, this is Julius Caesar’s grave, which is within a wall of stone marked by a simple plaque.
Church of the Madonna del Parto This small medieval church dates back to the Etruscan civilization. Built on the site of a pre-existing Roman Mithreum, it is known for its votive fresco covered walls.
Wall of Romulus This is the wall that encompassed early Rome in 753 BC and is one of Rome's top archaeological attractions on the Palatine.
Stadium of Domitian It is the shape of this stadium that today's Piazza Navona bears. This stadium was reconstructed in 86 AD and seated more than 20,000 spectators.
Il Piccolo This is a place to savour your taste buds. This is basically a wine bar with a twist. It offers a wide menu of Italian specialties for lunch along with an excellent Italian wine list.
Galleria Communale d'Arte Moderna This contemporary art gallery is home to art works from the late 19th century to 1945.
Balbi Crypt This state-of-the-art museum is the representative of the Dark Ages of Rome (A.D. 500-1000,). It was the time when the grand city of millions became a mere village of only 50,000. The museum answers how it happened.
Octagonal Room This is a room inside Nero's Golden House. It is covered by a soaring dome that changes from an eight-sided to a hemispherical form as it rises to the round central opening or oculus.
Enoteca Buccone This is an amazing combination of a historical attraction and retail store. You can combine a historical visit and pick up a fine bottle of wine.
Altemps Museum This 16th-century museum of sculptures and paintings exhibits artefacts from important Roman families, including the magnificent Ludovisi throne that depicts the Birth of Venus.
Scuderie Papali Museum Take a break from Roman ruins and antiquities to visit this art museum that features contemporary works of the 20th century.
Museo Nazionale Etrusco Di Villa Giulia This is a museum located in a villa built under the orders from Pope Julius III (1550-1555). This museum displays one of the most extensive collections of art and artefacts from the mysterious race of the Etruscans.
This was a short guide taking you through few of the not so well known places in Rome. These are places that add flavour to the taste of the ancient city of Rome. Without these places, Rome will not be complete. For people who believe in experiencing a place completely, these are places that are must visits for them. For others, these are generally places that are devoid of entrance fees.
