So, here are a few sites which are a must visit for all tourists. The first thing to be remembered is the fact that many tourist spots in Rome remain closed on Mondays.

Colosseum: You must have visited the place through various novels, and pictures. It is undoubtedly one of the most famous sights in the world. The people who have visited the place take a lot of time to come out of the initial impact which is overwhelming. Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, the structure received its name as the Colosseum from the giant statue, or colossus of Nero which stood to the spot.

Castel Sant’Angelo: The Castel Sant’Angelo remains to be one of the finest sights for tourists. The history that the architecture owns is much more varied and interesting compared to the other tourist attractions. Visitors these days can experience the legacy of the three uses of the monument: Hadrian’s funeral passage, defensive battlements and the frescoed interiors. Tourists find a lot of satisfaction spending a lot of time in the Castel Sant’Angelo committed not to miss a single detail.

The Pantheon: The Pantheon is one of those rare historical buildings that have stood tall through centuries of change. It is Italy Heaven’s personal favourite being one of the greatest sites in the world. The interior is breathtaking which screams out the sound of silence, calm and peace. Though there are thousands of tourists visiting the place, there is a shocking silence in the place.

The Basilica of Giovanni in Laterano: This is Rome’s cathedral, a church that was initially established by Constantine who was the first Christian emperor of Rome. The past from which the church originates is impressive and he wear and tear it has suffered due to time is an amazing sight. The altar at the basilica of Giovanni in Laterano is said to contain the heads of St. Peter and St. Paul.

Villa Celimontana: The Villa Celimontana is Rome’s most treasured public gardens. Being located in Rome, it also has its share of historical evidence. It was a piece of land bought by the Mattei family in the 16th century and later converted into a garden. The place is peaceful and safe in an ambience of greenery and birdsong.

The Valley of the Caffarella: It is probably one of the most interesting spots to spend time in Rome. It is sometimes calm and peaceful and even spooky at times. Originally a part of the archaeological park of the Appian Way, the place has gained a reputation for itself. It is like a stretch of countryside within the city with its share of ruins.
